The woman behind it all
Bre JonesBre graduated from Brigham Young University in August of 2021 with Bachelors of Science and Arts in Exercise and Wellness and Spanish Translation and Interpretation.
She is a determined woman who enjoys spending her time with loved ones and is often caught brainstorming her next project on a piece of scratch paper. Her love of Spanish and exercise began in High School as she took Spanish from Señora Campos while participating in Track and Field in the Spring and Soccer each Fall. Bre loved learning Spanish and was excited to learn that after her High School graduation she would be given the opportunity to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Florida. Her mission call was to serve in the English language, but her gut told her that she'd need her Spanish skills to help everyone she met while she was there. Her first day with her Mission President was a day full of change as he asked her to start serving in a Spanish-speaking companionship. The rest of her mission was spent serving the Spanish-speaking people of Florida. This encouraged her to keep studying Spanish at BYU, where she found a lack of communicative autonomy in the medical field and it was there her love for translation and interpretation was born. Now she studies how to teach all of the great knowledge she's been given to others! |
Bre's Teaching Philosophy
InputBre believes in teaching with authentic materials and utilizing Spanish in the classroom at all times. She believes that students will gain more from authentic input in the target language than relying upon their native language in the classroom.
|
OutputBre models her classroom upon a flipped model, meaning that most of the homework is done outside of class so that students can spend their time in class practicing speaking and writing. She wants to give her students every opportunity to use the language in a safe classroom environment so that they can be successful outside the classroom.
|
CommunityBre starts every class with the end in mind! Her students will go on to interact with the community around them and she believes in preparing them to do just that. She utilizes service learning and other community-centered activities to help her students prepare for life outside the classroom.
